“Micro Macro Expressions Deception Detection – How To Win More Negotiations”

People don’t realize they’re always negotiating.

What value do you place in your negotiations on recognizing facial expressions that lift the veil that hides hidden thoughts – some of which might help in deception detection? Do you know how to accurately read the feelings and opinions that lurk in the recesses of someone’s mind based on the micro-expressions and macro expressions they display?

By reading the other negotiator’s micro-expressions and macro expressions, you gain a more precise interpretation of their thoughts, along with the pending actions in which they may engage. And that awareness can help assist you in achieving more winning negotiation outcomes.

Continue to gain insight into how you can use micro-expressions and macro expressions to gain an advantage in your negotiations. You will also gain an understanding of how the two differ and the meaning of that difference.

Let’s talk it over… | Conscious Parenting Revolution

In the United States last year, we were just weeks away from a presidential election. The last few weeks, months, and even years have been fraught, politicized, and polarized. With everyone yelling over each other, there’s not a lot of listening going on.

As I teach in the Guidance Approach to Parenting, effective communication is crucial to maintaining healthy relationships and creating a physically and emotionally safe environment.

We’re always going to come across people who we disagree with. Getting into a shouting match, battling it out over social media, or pretending people who think differently than you don’t exist aren’t productive ways to handle those disagreements.

Instead, we need to acknowledge our differences, engage with each other as human beings, and encourage open and respectful dialogue.

This video-yes, it’s an ad, but worth the watch-is a great example of what effective, compassionate communication can look like:

Next time you’re talking to someone with different views than yours (your toddler or your teenage maybe?), don’t judge. Don’t try to convince. Don’t even look for all the things you might have in common. Simply focus on the person sitting across from you. You don’t “win” the conversation by proving that your point of view is the right one. You win by making a genuine connection with another human being.

Really listening can be hard when someone else’s perspective is so different than your own. Staying out of judgment is key. Also seeing beliefs as an attempt to meet needs. Beliefs tie into our values and give us a way to explain and understand our lives. If we see everyone else’s beliefs are doing this for them too, shifting a belief could be a fisk to belongingness with their tribe. A belief could tie directly back to a need for connection or understanding.

Successful dialogue doesn’t always mean you walk away from being on the same side. Goodness knows we don’t always see eye to eye with our kids. It’s about showing up, connecting, and listening to what the other person has to say.

Are We Robbing Our Children Of The Opportunity For Entrepreneurship?

This is a question that we have tried to address unsuccessfully over the last decade to two. We have seen many technological advances in the 21st century. Some practices introduced in the 80s and 90s are obsolete, to say the least. Yet, you know what has remained unchanged? Our public educational system.

Our schools are raising employees, not leaders!

As we look into the U.S. educational system, we see that the curriculum has remained stagnant since the 80s. We’re still inculcating into the minds of our children to study hard so that they can be great employees. Schools still follow a method of teaching that rewards children based on their conformity to standards and seldom recognizes those who exhibit creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.

Sure the school system has introduced technology to assist in the learning process, and skill-based learning such as graphic design, audio/video, and programming. But again, we are talking hard-based skill development, not the much-needed soft skills that will aid in career development later.

Who’s to blame?

There are certainly many factors that contribute to why this is happening. First on the list is the lack of government innovation and foresight. Despite wanting to overhaul the entire curriculum program, individual schools cannot just decide that on their own. They have to conform to government set standards for it to continue to operate and receive federal funds. This leads us to the grading system assessed on public schools and the standardized testing of the students.

Maybe the government does not see any problem with the current system. Despite most of the successful CEOs like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk saying that college failed to teach them how to be great in business, perhaps the government thinks that they represent just a small percentage of what the majority of the population believes.

There is also an apparent lack of clamor to change the system. We often hear a few groups advocating to overhaul the current educational system, but they lack a unified voice. Several groups are pushing for different changes, making it difficult to implement even one of them.

These are just two of the primary reasons why our educational system is lagging compared to other countries that emphasize the culture of creativity. Admittedly, this is a group effort and the government alone cannot do this on its own. It is high time for all concerned groups to work together and make changes one step at a time.

What’s the solution?

The internet age has allowed people from different corners of the planet to communicate with each other with ease. However, that’s just one of its benefits. For businesses, being able to meet with suppliers and close deals without ever having to show up in person has transformed the way people do business. This has given way to the age of unicorn startups, billion-dollar worth companies that primarily transact over or use the internet, among other technological advances.

COVID-19 has forced the nation into an environment that relies more and more on solo and micro business owners. A perfect example is the recent meteoric rise of the gig network and new business license applications. Displaced workers, non-immunization conformists are deciding to go out on their own rather than rejoin the corporate environment. These new business owners are facing an uphill battle as they realize they don’t know what they don’t know when it comes to launching and growing a small business.

Are our children prepared to be business owners?

Will they be thrown into a world that doesn’t really value what they bring to the table or one where they really can’t function independently? We really need to be introducing our young children to soft skills that include problem-solving, relationship engagement, team participation, and presentation/communication skills. Engaging business leaders in the curriculum programs in an experiential capacity will go a long way in preparing our children for the future. We need to be introducing these programs at the middle-school level before they move on to high school or college.

How about you? What do you think about our current educational system? Does it still provide for the needs of children? Or, is the current system stifling their potential? We would like to know your thoughts.

An exclusive Interview with the author of award winning novel Ex Libris – available now on Amazon

Ex Libris has won a number of accolades including the winner of The Global Book Awards. We caught up with the author John Oehler to discover more about the background to his Bestselling book.

What prompted you to write this book?

As with most of my novels, the idea for Ex Libris began with an incident.  My wife and I were on a pre-Christmas vacation in Prague when we visited a monastery with two libraries — one for so-called Forbidden Books.  I began to wonder what could be more forbidden than a text that contradicted a fundamental aspect of the Bible.  The hotel we stayed in and the Christmas Market in Prague’s Old Town Square provided settings, and a local restaurant introduced us to working-class food.

How long did it take to go from idea to publication?

Ex Libris took me about 5 years.  Why so long?  Because I’m meticulous about accuracy and details.  Accuracy because I want readers who’ve experienced the things or situations I describe to say, “He got that right.”  Details, including smells and taste, because they help to draw the reader into the story.  I also take a lot of care with dialogue and mood.  All of this takes time — and numerous rewrites.  My hope is that readers will cruise through the story with no idea of how much effort it took.

What was your biggest challenge in getting your book written?

Probably my biggest challenge was all the research I did to get the settings correct.  Paris I knew by heart.  Not so for most of the other places.  Among them, the gypsy enclave was the most fun, along with depicting gypsy culture in a way that would potentially provide new insights for readers.  Creating the character of the blind painter was also a challenge, and a fun one.

What aspects of your book do you think readers will find the most fascinating?

I hope they find the biblical conundrum fascinating.  It was the impetus for the story.  Apart from that, I think they’ll enjoy the mystery, intrigue, and twists.

  1. When you did the final read-through for the book what was your favorite part of the book?

I like the gypsy/Roma stuff.  I wanted a gypsy hero because I’d never seen one in another book, and the Roma people have been persecuted throughout their history.  Real Roma may disagree, but I like the way I developed that side of the protagonist’s character.  I also like the “forbidden” book I created, which wasn’t easy.  Fortunately, I had some excellent help from a rabbi.  As an aside, my wife, surprisingly to me, likes the parts of the story that transpire through the rapid-fire text messages.

Great Delegation Strategies for Franchise Success

All successful business people have to learn to delegate. But I would argue that delegation is especially critical for franchise owners who want to own more than one franchise location, and who would like to see all their franchisees succeed and grow.

I would also argue that many franchise owners have an especially difficult time learning to delegate to others. Many tend to fall into a pattern like this . . .

An owner starts by buying one franchise and works extra hard to make it successful. That owner learns that in order to succeed, it is necessary to stay on top of every detail of running the business. That owner can have a very difficult time transitioning from being the owner of just one location to being the owner of several or many. And similar difficulties can emerge even in one location if it starts to grow.

One supervisor cannot be hands-on in multiple locations, or in one location when it reaches a certain size. At a certain point, the owner has to hire competent employees, trust them, and delegate responsibility and work to them.

That poses a contradiction for many owners because the same style of supervision that brought success earlier on has to be left behind.

Steps to More Successful Delegation

First, have a clear vision and expectation of the roles you are hiring for. Perhaps you’re hiring a person whose job will be to open up new locations. Or perhaps you’re hiring a person whose job will be to hire and help you staff up – in other words, to be your HR manager. Or maybe you’re hiring someone who will be a retail and sales manager. To succeed, you need to hire people who have the experience, aptitude, and skills to handle the specific tasks you need done. You can then delegate those tasks to them and loosen your control over many details. You can then stop micromanaging and start to concentrate on bigger issues of expanding your business.

As the expression says, you can stop working in your business and start working on your business.

Second, hire people who can be delegated to. Does their experience indicate that they have been in the past, and that they are open to input and suggestions? During interviews and screening, do they demonstrate the kind of a cooperative, personable and enthusiastic attitude that tells you they will be open to being delegated to?

Third, hire people who understand and communicate well. You can get a sense of this in interviews. When you explain a current challenge or set of expectations, is the candidate quick to understand and grasp the essence of what you are saying? Is he or she able to listen well and ask questions until a solid level of understanding is achieved? Pay attention to this issue. Hiring managers and then having to explain things repetitively to them is a frustration that can convince you that it is necessary to micromanage. And that is something to avoid.

Fourth, provide excellent training in the critically important skills the job will require. Often, franchise owners like to hire managers and other employees who have lots of prior, applicable experience. Those owners expect that a new employee’s previous experience will take the place of training – in essence, that the employee will arrive on the job “pre-trained.” There may be some truth in that. However, it is always more effective to carefully define the skills your new hires should have, develop metrics to measure them, and to train those abilities.

And Think about Relatability

As you meet with possible hires, ask yourself, “Is this someone I can relate to . . . someone I can see working with closely in the years ahead?”

One way to increase the likelihood of productive, long relationships is to consider offering very promising employees an opportunity to work their way toward limited partnerships in your franchise.

Is Your LinkedIn Profile Missing the Mark?

Is Your LinkedIn Profile Missing the Mark?

People like to do business with PEOPLE, not companies – and they like to do business with people that they know, like, and trust. These two maxims guide the world of business. Yet many executives and business owners ignore these principles when crafting their LinkedIn profiles. That’s unfortunate because LinkedIn is a primary way people search for other professionals to buy from, partner with, appoint to boards, offer new opportunities, and more. Moreover, the talented people that executives and owners are trying to attract are looking to align themselves with leaders who lead with passion. Executives and business owners who have failed to be authentic and transparent on the LinkedIn platform, and who have failed to sow the seeds of know, like, and trust into their profiles are missing the mark.

Be YOUnique

A quote often attributed to Oscar Wilde reminds us: “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” When your profile reads like everyone else’s, you do yourself a great disservice. You are at your most attractive when you share your business principles, processes, and passions. Your personal back story is captivating – tell it. When you share the story of your business journey – including the bumps in the road – you draw us in. You become more human. You become a person with whom we’d like to do business.

Commonly Missed Opportunities

  1. Not customizing your LinkedIn Headline. Your Headline is the text right under your name. Although LinkedIn auto-fills this for you with your current job title and company, you have the option to customize it using up to 220 characters. Customizing your headline is a great way for you to stand out. Add the results you create and how you produce them. Or, identify your customers and how you create value for them.
  2. Using your ABOUT section as sales copy for your business. Oh, please spare us. Stop hiding online. Your ABOUT section should be about YOU and your personal business story. This is where you woo and wow. Of course, mentioning what you currently do and whom you do it for is fine, but tell us more. Share your career journey. Share who YOU are.
  3. No text under each of your positions. Your current position is where you get to tell us all about your company or business. In each of your prior positions, tell us about your accomplishments to help us get to know you better.
  4. Skills section that is outdated and not aligned with current aspirations. LinkedIn is currently showing only three of your skills before the reader has to click to see more. So the three skills that show should be indicative of the things you most want to be known for. Beyond that, make sure your skills reflect what you are doing now and plan to do in the future, as opposed to skills you used 20 years ago and now delegate. Review each of your skills so that each on your list is the highest level expression of that skill that applies to you.

LinkedIn allows you to claim your eminence online 24/7 without having to open your mouth – so you can achieve your personal business goals and attract your ideal opportunities.

JOACHIM PASTOR SHARES LONG-ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM: ‘GREATER MESSAGE’

“After listening to Joachim Pastor music for the first time, I have to say that I was transcended into another element of trance. With a riveting twist this producer has invigorated the mind though sound and time that I myself will not long forget. My musical pallet has now been expanded and it is no wonder that Armada Music scooped him up under their label for the ‘Greater Message’ that his music is delivering. If you are like me and this is your first time listening to Joachim Pastor music I hope that you can validate what I am saying about his sound. If you are a veteran listener to his music, you know why you have come back. Regardless if you are a new or an existing fan the musical journey that the ‘Greater Message’ has delivered upon will not disappoint. Download, stream, and hit repeat so that you yourself can embark upon the Joachim Pastor’ music creation. Full Support – Michael Beas, Raver Magazine”

More on Joachim Pastor

For Joachim Pastor, the past few years have all revolved around change. When the French creator stepped away from Hungry Music, it was because he’d reached the end of a cycle, because there was this whole musical universe still begging to be explored. He saw the bigger picture, took the leap and joined Armada Music to unlock these endless possibilities and directions. And that jump into the deep end has now culminated in something remarkable. His debut album: ‘Greater Message’.

Listen to Joachim Pastor – Greater Message

Showcasing his innate musicality across the widest spectrum, ‘Greater Message’ takes the emotive qualities of Joachim Pastor’s melody-centric music and multiplies it into infinity. Propelled onward by his impassioned notes and chords as well as the punchy and energetic beats, all thirteen tracks on the album are steeped in curiosity and discovery, the exact things that sparked this incredible new journey to begin with.

“The past years have been full of inevitable change for me”, Joachim Pastor explains. “Stepping away from something familiar to jump into the unknown is always scary, but I landed at Armada Music with hope and am now proud to present my debut album. It symbolizes what I love about music, as each track has a life and a soul. I tried to combine the energy of electronic beats with the emotion of melodies to create something unique.”

As evident in productions such as title track ‘Greater Message’ (feat. Florence Bird) and the heavily inspired ‘Saint-Louis’ (feat. Nathan Nicholson), Joachim Pastor’s debut album is one of special meaning and higher purpose. And if you let the music sweep over you and allow yourself to see, you too will find that this ‘Greater Message’ is a story worth telling.

About Joachim Pastor

Inspired by the works of seminal artists such as Daft Punk, Sonata Arctica and Jean-Michel Jarre, Joachim Pastor’s melodious brand of electronica offers a sense of sophistication not easily found in today’s music world. Designed to make listeners feel with every fiber of their being, his music is an expression of emotion with a danceable twist, endorsed by hundreds of thousands of fans on Spotify alone as well as those who witnessed his performances at the likes of Dour, Tomorrowland, Paleo, Olympia, Solidays, DGTL, Pleinvrees and more.

Exclusive Interview with GRAMMY ® nominated Trance Legends Cosmic Gate on ‘MOSAIIK’

GRAMMY ® nominated trance legends Cosmic Gate aka Nic Chagall and Bossi have proved to be a matchless musical union. The last 20 Years set them on the course to becoming Germany’s most enduringly successful electronic music duo. Smashing the biggest festivals and road-blocking clubs worldwide, got them highest climber on DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart and racked up plentiful other awards & nominations along the way. Numerous Singles like ‘am2pm’, ‘Fall Into You’ and ‘Falling Back’, countless Remixes and 9 Artist Albums, including scene-defining classics like ‘Be Your Sound’, ‘Fire Wire’ and ‘Exploration of Space’, their star on dance music’s walk of fame has long since been laid.

Cosmic Gate (aka Nic Chagall and Bossi) is thrilled to release the first stage of their hotly anticipated new artist album. Trailed throughout 2021 by vanguard single releases and stunning live streams, ‘MOSAIIK’ will platform nine sensational cuts from the GRAMMY-nominated duo.

Mirroring the same delivery system adopted by their 2017 ‘Materia’ albums, seasoned CG fans will already be familiar with ‘MOSAIIK’ release dynamic. Shared across two ‘Chapters’, ‘MOSAIIK’s ‘II’ styled title is a direct nod to the group’s eleventh artist long-player.

“One of the best albums of the year in my opinion is ‘MOSAIIK’. Every single track has a message, a deeper meaning that changes between people and persons alike. While I have been a fan of Cosmic Gate for years, ‘MOSAIIK’ to me has a vibe that is all on its own. Each track has its own element that you can take from, that you can connect with in ways that inspire. To me this album is the glue that unites and holds together after an entire year keeping us away from the music that connected us all. I had a chance to interview Nic Chagall and Bossi after their global release of the album in NYC, this is what they shared up with us”

Full Support – Michael Beas, Raver Magazine

What 2 words describe the journey you’re taking your fans on with the release of your new album MOSAIIK?

FEEL IT

How does the title MOSAIIK reflect the world we’re living in right now?

The name Mosaiik was reflecting the way we worked in putting this album together, less describing what was going on out in the world while writing it, even as quite sure a lot of those to say the least unusual circumstances we lived in, reflect in the music, that’s needless to say. Mosaiik, describes the many parts of the work you do when producing an album, sometimes several tracks at the same time. put a track aside, wait for Vocals to be written, start something new, get a Vocal demo that suddenly puts attention and attraction to, so many little different pieces bits and parts, fractures which in the end become one, our own Mosaiik. About the spelling, we took the liberty to write it with two II, simply as Mosaiik is our 11th studio Album, we liked the idea and think it stands out a bit like that.

At what point did you both know it was time to start a new project following your release of “Forward Ever, Never Backward?”

Somehow, after the 20 Years Album (Forward Ever Backward Never), it did not just feel like a restart for a new Album, as we have seen it several times ago, the start for Mosaiik  felt a bit like the start into a new era.

There were some signs that our fans are as ready as we were, for an acceptance of a deeper, progressed sound and production direction, as you might know already from some of our  latest remixes or from listening to the diversity of influences when listening to our WYM Radio show. No one told us we needed to do this change, we very naturally felt this from within, as we always followed our intuitions over the years.

When the clubbing world was pretty much separated from their dancefloors in March 2020 on top, circumstances provided even more artistic latitude. Thus ‘MOSAIIK’s musicmaking became less symmetric and floor-focused, and all the richer for it. as weird as it sounds, we somehow became even more free in our work, while life outside was actually the opposite, we tried to take circumstances as a chance, not an obstacle.

After a good while then, we laid all of ‘MOSAIIK’s ideas, drafts and demos out, and started to realize quite quick, there is so much material, we will split the album into two again, as we did before with the Materia series.

Available now across all digital formats, ‘MOSAIIK Chapter One’  is ready to stream/buy from today (with a CD edition set to follow with ‘Chapter 2’).

“Boo!” said a ghost from 6 feet away

Who doesn’t love trick-or-treating? I have fond memories of Halloween: costumes, face paint, going door-to-door around the neighborhood, and candy-so much candy!

This year, like last, will be different. Some of you won’t feel comfortable with your kids gathering together to trick-or-treat. Costume parties may be postponed until next year. Maybe you won’t even be opening doors to hand out candy. But that doesn’t mean all the fun has to be canceled.

It’s important to find ways to celebrate holidays and milestones while still acknowledging our current reality. Not only will you model resilience and adaptability for your kids, but you might also even discover a new family tradition!

Here are some ideas on how to have a fun-while-socially-distant Halloween celebration:

Trunk or Treating. Instead of handing out candy in person, decorate the back of your car’s trunk with Halloween streamers and baskets of candy. Your neighbors can walk past your house, help themselves to the baskets, and give you a wave to say thanks!

Check out your local community events. Maybe your neighborhood is hosting a drive-by parade. I’ve seen neighborhoods that are putting up creepy decorations on trees and lamp posts and dubbing them “haunted roads.” To keep it simple, tour your neighborhood to look at house decorations or catch a Halloween flick at a drive-in movie theater.

Host a Zoom costume party. Who says Zoom has to be all about work? Invite friends and family members to a virtual costume party. This way, you still get to appreciate each other’s costumes.

Carve (or color) pumpkins. Pumpkin decorating is a great crafting activity for kids of all ages. If your kids are too young for carving, set them loose with some magic markers or glitter pens instead!

Bake some spooky treats. Bake and send Halloween-themed cookies to your friends and family. It’s a good way of letting them know you’re thinking of them, even if you can’t celebrate together.

Hold a spooky house competition. Create a spooky house competition with your neighbors! Have those who want to join decorate their homes, and then do an online vote on Halloween night. A good example of doing something fun together, apart.

Halloween this year doesn’t have to be a drag. So go forth, have some socially distant fun, and share a picture of your celebrations inside our Facebook group. I’m excited to see what your family is getting up to!
