Zohran Mamdani deserves credit for his win but the election isn’t over. There are crucial blocks he didn’t win, particularly poorer people and Black voters. It’s disrespectful for Bernie Sanders to say that if #kamalaharris ran a similar campaign she would have won, especially when Bernie ran with the #ZohranMamdani strategy and lost the presidential election. #mamdani has a long way to go and it would behoove to not ignore the groups he lost.

When it comes to actual leadership, there is no “both sides” argument to make about calls for and celebrations of political violence. As I mention here, this is all republican territory. People on the liberal side in social media spaces have indeed expressed violent ideas, but not the democratic politicians themselves. And it starts from the top with #Trump. Notice how some say we need to tone things down but never say his name? Any talk of toning rhetoric down that doesn’t start with Trump is not an honest conversation to have. Both republicans and democrats and other political parties have experienced violence over the years. The scale, however, does matter and it’s not even close.
