Rich Goldstein
Rich Goldstein is a patent attorney, Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), and founder of Goldstein Intellectual Property, a firm dedicated to helping entrepreneurs, inventors, and business owners turn their ideas into protected, valuable assets. With more than 30 years in practice, Goldstein has obtained more than 2,500 patents and advised more than 10,000 inventors and entrepreneurs, from first-time founders to established companies preparing for investment or exit. He was asked by the American Bar Association to write its official patent guide for entrepreneurs. The ABA Consumer Guide to Obtaining a Patent was written for laypeople and published in 2016, with a second edition in progress. The guide reflects how Goldstein approaches every client: plain English, honest advice, and no guesswork. As both a patent attorney and an exit planner, Goldstein works at the point where intellectual property meets enterprise value, helping owners understand what they already have, which pieces are worth protecting first, and how to create an IP strategy that grows with the business. The strategies he creates focus on how an IP portfolio strengthens a capital raise, provides leverage for strategic partnerships, and magnifies the ultimate sale price of a business. His firm serves clients nationwide and internationally across software, consumer products, biotech, medical devices, AI, hardware, clean energy, and e-commerce. Goldstein is known for telling clients when they don't need a patent - even when it costs him the work - and for flat-fee pricing that lets clients know their full investment before any work begins. He is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 1993 (Reg. No. 36,527).
