Jim Padilla is the kind of leader who has been through life’s fire and come out with grit, wisdom and an unstoppable drive. Foster care at 15, the streets at 16, and a decade that taught him to stay calm in high-stakes moments and help people make grounded decisions: the same skills that made him a natural in sales. His first sales team was an ADT alarm dealership in 1998, where he learned that a sale lives or dies in the conversation.
In 2013 Jim and his wife, Cyndi, who brought years of leading teams for retailers like Target and Gap, started Gain The Edge. Their first big project set the tone: asked to run the sales for a client’s first intentional seven-figure launch, they read the playbook in two days, recruited a dozen friends and colleagues, and two weeks later the launch had produced $1.6 million. Within a few years of Cyndi joining, the business went from six figures to seven.
Gain The Edge made its name doing what few firms do well: building sales teams and growing companies with fractional sales teams. They recruit, train and lead the closers, build the process, and listen to the calls until the team wins on purpose. Clients have included Zig Ziglar, Josh Turner, Sachin Patel and Elizabeth Purvis. Across more than 200,000 sales conversations, that work has helped clients produce over half a billion dollars in sales.
Listening to all those calls led to SalesMetric AI, which shows business owners what their sales calls aren’t telling them: where trust dropped, where the offer blurred, and where a yes turned into a maybe. Jim’s stance is simple: sales first, everything else second, with human intelligence first and AI to sharpen it, never replace it.
Jim hosts the Sales Team Ready podcast on sales, tactics and business growth, and has been featured on The Sharkpreneur Podcast with Kevin Harrington and Seth Greene and The Scale IT Method with Allison Maslan. Coming soon, Jim and Cyndi’s Legacy Without Limits podcast features conversations with founders who have exited and empire builders. He speaks on irresistible offers, the ideal client journey, AI in sales without losing the human touch, profitable partnerships, and building winning sales teams.
Above all, Jim and Cyndi love God, and their seven grandkids are the center of their life. Everything they build is legacy for them. Home is Fair Oaks, California. gtenow.com
