He has contributed to the technology of in the wireless communications industry for over 60 years as an inventor, entrepreneur and executive. During this time, he contributed significantly to many important advancements in wireless communications, from the first car phones and radio pagers to the latest cellular generations. He is known as the “Father of the (Handheld) Cellular Phone.” 

Cooper is a member of the FCC Technological Advisory Council. He has been granted eleven patents and is widely published in the communications field. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a Marconi Prize recipient, a Prince of Asturias Laureate and has received many other awards including induction into the Wireless and Consumer Electronics Halls of Fame. Time Magazine, in 2007 named him one of the top 100 inventors in history.
