LinkedIn can be one of the most impactful tools to be used with your job search.  It can also be a black hole that you waste your time with.  I always coach all of my clients to follow a process of:

1.  Be Known (connect with your target market)

2.  Be Liked (engage with your audience / network and cultivate relationships)

3.  Be Trusted (when you post content consistently that connects with people in your network, it builds trust in you and your expertise)

4.  Be Hired (you will never worry about where your next job will come from)

If you leverage LinkedIn with this mindset, it will shift how you navigate your day to day activities and help you find your ideal job faster.  Sometimes it will take a little time to build traction, but it is worth it.

The idea of your big domino is a marketing and sales concept.

When you are looking for a leadership position, it is your job to sell yourself as the best solution for a company.  In order to do that most effectively, you need to find their pain points, and build a bridge of understanding on how you can solve those pain points best. 

Ultimately, the Big Domino is the ONE THING that you need to get them to believe or understand about you.  Get them to buy into or believe your Big Domino and they will feel like they have no choice but to hire you!

While there are a ton of different questions you will be concerned with answering to prep for your interview, they really all boil down to these 5 two way questions.

#1: 

They will be thinking, “Why are you here?  Why us and not another company?”

You will be thinking:  “What does this job involve?”

#2:

They will be thinking,  “What can you do for us?”

You will be thinking, “What are the top skills you need for a top employee to execute and succeed?”

#3:

They will be thinking, “What kind of person are you?”

You will be thinking, “Do I want to work with these people?  Do I like them?  Can I see myself working side-by-side with them everyday?”

#4:

They will be thinking, “What differentiates you from everyone else who applied or that we are talking to?”

You will be thinking, “IF we like each other and we both want to work together, how can I persuade or influence them to see there is something unique about me”

#5:

They will be thinking, “Can I afford you?”

You will be thinking, “Can I persuade them to hire me at the income package I need or desire?”

10 years ago I was the head of recruiting for a Fortune 1000 company.  After becoming the VP of Marketing for a top executive search firm, I realized how much people were struggling with their job search.

I have always loved helping people.  Financial coaching, business coaching, internet marketing consulting, personal branding….

I never thought I would be in the career coaching industry.  Then several years ago I took on a consulting project to help a top executive search firm with their internet marketing.

Within a week of learning what they did, who they helped, how many people were struggling, and what was holding them back I had a couple of aha moments.

FIRST:  Why is it that some of the most successful people in the world instantly become reactive and give up control of their results with their job search.

SECOND:  Everyone needs help – and most people would like it because it is hard to see the forest through the trees.

The problem is, the industry isn’t designed to help the job seeker.  Recruiters work for companies and most of the companies that help executives find jobs charge $10-15k or more.  That’s a big check to cut.

I can’t tell you how many people I spoke to that needed help, but could afford the fee or couldn’t emotionally justify making the investment in themselves.

That bothered me so much!

I became really frustrating seeing people not act in their own best interest because of fear or lack of resources.

I was blown away that there wasn’t anyone out there who would advocate for the executive job seeker exclusively without a huge fee.  

Yes there are resume writers who make amazing resumes, but that isn’t enough either.That’s when the idea of CareerNext started.
