    Don't Forget The Price Paid For Big Failures - today walking through the Alamo and the “Famous Riverwalk” in San Antonio, Texas I reflected on lessons learned this past year, started planning for next year. Listen up you have to watch the video to see how a photographer at a restaurant on Riverwalk talked me into buying photos that Carla Brown and I agreed prior to sitting down that we would absolutely under-no-circumstance buy (I love the Givers Economy it works each time). Now back to the Alamo experience. It might seem odd that the Texans would go around shouting, "Remember when you beat the snot out of us!" all the way to freedom. In fact, "Remember the Alamo!" (said in a more ominous tone) might have better been a saying of the Mexican army. But, in the end, the Texans rode it all the way to freedom.

    These days, it seems like business people and companies try to bury their mistakes and failures as soon as humanly possible. What a waste! Someone has paid dearly to make those mistakes. To bury them is to truly waste that sacrifice. At very least, use the cost of a big mistake to teach the entire organization a lesson. Maybe, like the Texans, use the experience to inspire an even bigger success.

    Starting tonight become a better closer. If you asked most people what activity they associated most with sales, I’d guess that many of them would respond the same way: Closing. And it’d be no surprise. For one thing, it’s the most visible part of the sales process -- all of us have been closed at one time or another, whether we’re buying a new mobile phone (I prefer the Iphone) or a new Learjet. For another, there’s nothing sexy about prospecting or discovery calls. But movies like Boiler Room, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Glengarry Glen Ross have (unfortunately) glorified aggressive, hard-closing salespeople as rainmakers. Real closing involves a lot less pomp and circumstance and a lot more strategy and patience, however.     Recently during an interview I asked "how do people get in front of the right customers?" At least those were the words he used to asked the question -- what I heard was: What's the secret weapon great salespeople use to get in front of the right buyers?

    My response was a simple question - which of the 10 buyer profiles is your ideal customer?

    He thought I was talking Greek and I can assure you I was speaking very plain english.

    Be Obessed - Stop Avoiding The Hills - Thought of the Week - Don't skip the hills! I ran 5 miles through the streets of Atlanta (Vinings) -- whew what a mindset and physical challenge. When I run solo I have a habit of skipping the hills. But these hills in Atlanta are now joke. I felt like I was moving very slow --- in fact I was as my pace was slightly over 11 minutes per mile higher than 9min 30 sec mile --- the hills were very steep and difficult. Just like life. Sometimes it's a challenge to wake up at 5 am and workout, to resist a new shirt and out the money into my investment account, or slow down to enjoy life vs working. But just like running hills where muscle strength is developed, endurance happens, and mental toughness happens that make me faster -- when eat the right foods, spend less than you make, develop relationships you live a much more fulfilling life. My point: don't skip the hills!
