Best Seller TV, the only show dedicated to covering today’s best-selling business books on C-Suite TV, is announcing its March programming with a brand new episode, featuring Dwight Holcomb, author of The Lean CMO.
Holcomb wrote the book with the purpose of teaching CMOs how to capture the right audience that will pursue your message because they see what you’re offering them, as it’s tailored to their specific needs. He states that this is the “new model” of doing business as opposed to the “old” way where CMOs put too much emphasis on metrics with no real return as a result of their ad spend. He refers to that new model as “finding the ideal customer profile.”
Holcomb says a common mistake marketers make is the need to be everything for every client, when instead, they should hyperfocus on certain things they do well. He adds that CEOs and other executive leaders don’t always have the bandwidth to accomplish all the items they need to do, but more often than not, the ideas are there. There’s just no bandwidth to implement them. He stresses that executives use a team of functional specialists to perform a number of tasks – whether it’s public relations, content writing, or social media, allowing them to focus on high-level strategy. This is what he calls, “the lean CMO blueprint.”
He draws on his personal experience of being a college wrestler mentoring high school students and teaching them a technique, which coincidentally, allowed him to improve on his own skills. Holcomb is a believer in compartmentalizing every step of what you’re trying to learn in order to teach it to others. He says, “If I don’t know something, I force myself to try to teach it. By having to deconstruct what it takes to make that happen, I’m able to become a better salesperson myself.”
In order to stay at the top of the game, Holcomb adds, “You have to be able to reinvent yourself through learning.”
All episodes of Best Seller TV will air on C-Suite TV and are hosted by TV personality, Taryn Winter Brill.
Best-selling author, speaker, and former Fortune 100 CMO Jeffrey Hayzlett created C-Suite TV to give top-tier business authors a forum for sharing thought-provoking insights, in-depth business analysis, and their compelling personal narratives.
“Dwight is such a knowledgeable sales and marketing guy. In this day and age where we’re all trying to constantly do more with less, he provides great tips on how marketers and c-suite executives can best utilize employees in order to allow executives to focus on the bigger picture,” Hayzlett said. “As a business owner myself, this is essential to move the needle forward.”
