Julie Lyle

Julie Lyle most recently held the position of Chief Marketing Officer for hhgregg. She was responsible for leading all marketing, advertising, brand strategy, consumer insights,  ecommerce, visual merchandising, data analytics, store formats and new market entry for the $3B electronics, appliance and home furnishings retailer, which operates 228 stores in 20 states in the US.

Prior to joining hhgregg, Julie served as Chief Marketing Officer, and member of the Board of Directors for Prudential Corporation Asia, based in Hong Kong.  Her role encompassed diverse functions including Marketing & Advertising, Digital Media, Communications, Customer Retention/Cross-sell Sales, Strategy, Brand and Intellectual Property and Government Relations for the fastest growing, pan-Asian insurance enterprise. As head marketer for Prudential plc, Julie led all marketing and brand related activities for the company’s Life Insurance, Asset Management and Consumer Finance businesses, which comprise 23 business units and span 13 markets across Asia (£38B p.a.).

Julie joined Prudential in 2008, bringing a 25-year track record of success as a marketing executive and entrepreneur.  She came to Prudential from Sun Capital Partners, a private equity firm, where between 2006 and 2008, she was Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, responsible for marketing, merchandising, store planning and turnaround strategies for the North American retail chain, Pamida.

Prior to Sun Capital, Julie was a corporate officer for Wal-Mart, where she was Vice President of Corporate Marketing, Advertising and Administration for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. from 2004 to 2006.  As head of marketing for the world’s largest corporation, Julie was responsible for all marketing, branding, strategic planning, own-label portfolios, e-commerce, advertising and communications.  Julie had previously served as Vice President of International Marketing where she led marketing, private label, public relations and advertising teams for Wal-Mart’s diverse retail, B2B clubs, and restaurant formats in ten countries outside the United States.  She also oversaw M&A integration, brand conversion, associate communications and global public relations for the company’s non-US markets.

Before joining Wal-Mart in 2001, Julie was Executive Director of Global Sales and Marketing for the Commercial Division of Raytheon, the world’s third largest defence contracting company.

Julie is also an experienced entrepreneur.  In 1985, she founded Ripley Marketing Group, which she led for 11 years and grew into a multi-million dollar business and consumer marketing  and communications firm.

In recognition of her achievements, Julie was named by US-based Advertising Age magazine as one of the “Top 25 Women to Watch” and has been honored with a Silver Anvil Award for Marketing Communications by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and the Helen Keller Award of Excellence from the Lighthouse for the Blind.  Julie is also a two-time recipient of the prestigious Bronze Quill Award, presented by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), as well as having achieved the Gold Standard Award from the International Public Affairs Committee for leading “The Most Effective In-House Marketing Team” across all categories in Asia.

Julie received her degrees in International Relations and Political Science from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was born in Rio de Janeiro and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Brazil. Julie loves cooking, hiking, scuba diving and is an occasional marathon runner.
